Ementa:

Ao menos três narrativas norteiam estes Estudos Terráqueos para além da ordem das músicas e do fato de serem peças instrumentais (podendo servir aos discursos mais desarrazoados). Em primeiro lugar, os Estudos são a expressão extra-humana de aspectos do planeta azul e dos seres que nele habitam, a exemplo da andorinha-azul (progne subis) que anualmente migra de um hemisfério a outro, fugindo do inverno da América do Norte rumo ao sudeste brasileiro, em um trajeto improvável e cheio de percalços, verdadeira saga que, com sorte, fruiremos aqui.

Os Estudos nada mais são que uma disciplina de graduação em Geofonia Comparada em uma universidade mal ranqueada (onde leciono) de um planeta distante. Entre os tópicos trabalhados no curso (ainda que pouco focado em referências textuais) figura igualmente o do Êxodo bíblico, compreendendo a fuga do Egito pelos hebreus e os 40 anos que estes levaram cruzando a península arábica até a dita terra prometida. De fato, Antônio e o Cajado é a trilha para um game elaborado em nosso departamento, no qual Antônio – ou você, ouvinte gentil – refaz a marcha de Moisés até o Monte Sinai, e com discernimento, perseverança ou a mão de Deus, a Canaã. A todos uma boa travessia.

Syllabus

At least three narratives guide these Earthly Studies besides the order of the songs and the fact that they are instrumental pieces (allowing for the most unreasonable discourses). In first place, the Studies are an extra-human expression of certain aspects of the blue planet and of the beings which inhabit it, for example, the Purple-martin (progne subis) which migrates annually from one hemisphere to the other, fleeing from the North-American winter to the Brazilian Southeast, taking improbable routes full of mishaps. Hopefully we will take a ride in this true saga.

Earthly Studies is an undergraduate course in comparative geophonics at a low ranked university (where I teach) on a distant planet. Amongst the topics studied on the course (even though not focusing on textual references) is the biblical Exodus, covering the Hebrew escape from Egypt and the forty years it took to cross the Arabic Peninsula and reach the reputed promised land. Indeed, Antônio and the Cane is the soundtrack for a game developed in our department in which Antônio – or you, kind listener – retraces Moses’ march to Mount Sinai, and with insight, perseverance or the hand of God, to Canaan.
